Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Brew Series

Experience a Series of 4 Beers inspired by The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: A Series of Saisons! … brought to you by Brewmaster Rik Marley.

Part one is “Conquest” at 9.2% ABV.  Highly attenuated but surprisingly full bodied. Deep Orange hue. Fermented with a proprietary French and Belgian Saison yeast blend. Conquest was the first rider to appear and I named this beer simply based on the ABV.

Part two in this series was named after the 4th rider known as Death. “Pale Rider” is a 6.4%ABV ale brewed with the same yeast as Conquest. Brewed with freshly ground clementine peels and coriander. Light in color (hence the name ‘pale rider’) and full of citrusy, peppery, spicy earthy flavors.

The third rider in our ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ Saison Series, Famine is a locally sourced ale brewed in the French/Belgian tradition with our proprietary Saison yeast blend. Famine was brewed with a 3:1 ratio of barley:wheat. Aged on 50lbs of local, fresh blackberry puree and made using our own freshly picked Cascade hops in the boil. Famine was named as a paradox to the embarrassment of riches we’ve had in our local crops this season. Slightly spicy and mildly bitter. Subtle fruit finishes this complex and unique Saison. Next up… prepare for “War!” 5.4% ABV

The fourth, and final beer to end this series is currently in the tanks. Representing the rider of the second horse, who is often taken to represent War. “When he broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.” War is deep red in color and brewed with a percentage of smoked malt (war=smoke). As far as I know, it’s a Goose original as I’ve never seen or heard of another smoked Saison. I could be wrong, but that rarely happens. Same proprietary Belgian yeast blend as the first three. Hopped with Gr. Magnum for bittering and a liberal amount of Cz. Saaz for flavor and aroma. I thought the spiciness of Saaz would well complement the smoky phenols of the rauchmalt (smoked malt). 7.06% ABV

The first three parts of the this Series are currently on draft: Conquest, Pale Rider, and Famine. With War currently in the tanks, it won’t be long for the Series of Saisons to be available on draft at the same time! Come sample and tell us your favorite… this series will be on draft for a limited time!
