*ANNOUNCING OUR WINNERS!*
"This years iteration of the 'Name the Brew' contest is an Oatmeal Pale Ale. It was brewed in collaboration with The Portsmouth Brewery. 'Name the Brew' has 20% oatmeal in the grist, all Simcoe Hops throughout the boil, and dry hopped with Simcoe resulting in awesome hop flavor and aroma without an overwhelming hop bitterness."
Coming in 1st Place is Melanie Taylor with Brimley's Best (Oatmeal Pale Ale); giving credit where credit is due, to Wilford Brimley, an actor and former spokesperson for Quaker Oats. A close second is Sally Curtis with Quaker's Run Ale, using a local landmark is consistent with the naming of some of our other brews!
Thank you to EVERYONE who submitted names in this contest - it is something we look forward to every year!
We've Gone Solar!
THE GOOSE IS SUNNY SIDE UP!
In 2011, we added solar panels to our roof and became the very first solar powered brewery in NH! As a solar hot water brewery, we have cut our fuel usage in half!
In addition, we completed a solar photovoltaic ("PV") array which powers 30% of our electricity usage. Friday, November 16th, 2012 marked the 1 year anniversary of our Solar Array installation. In it's first year of operation, our system produced 60 MWh of energy! That's enough energy to power 4 stadiums and has offset our carbon footprint by 42 tons - comparable to four acres of trees!
During the summer of 2012, we replaced our propane-fired boiler with a MESys AutoPellet fully-automatic wood pellet boiler. The boiler will displace approximately 6,450 gallons of propane each year.
